Revolving Chambers (FSU Adventure)

  • Engine: Unreal Engine 4.27
  • Duration: 2 Weeks
  • My Roles
    • Level Designer
    • Technical Designer
  • Team Size: 1
  • My Responsibilities:
    • Designed, programmed, and implemented key & lock system, and the core level mechanic: Level Chamber-Revolver.
    • Created the level blockmesh and custom geometry props.
  • Post Mortem
    • The moment I was tasked with this project, I’d already known what I wanted to accomplish, since my peers and I had discussed a topic about the game, Portal. So I went into designing something that I’d dreamt up before. A room that spun like a revolver.
    • I’d created a prototype within another engine I was more familiar with at the time, DreamsPS4, to test the idea out and find out if it was viable an idea for me to bring into Unreal Engine. With a bit of tinkering and playing with Unreal’s hierarchy and scoping, I managed to get the revolving chambers to work.
    • The project, overall, was a satisfying piece to showcase to my peers. Although, I can’t help but feel that the second puzzle was the most difficult out of the three when it came to puzzling through the chamber. However, I’ve been told that the third puzzle still felt the most difficult, due to the nature of the player being within the chamber that is spinning, forcing the player to re-evaluate their surroundings to make their way back to the central tower. To that, I accept the third as the most difficult, experience-wise, to the player, and call this project a success.
